The land of the Region of Central Macedonia is rich with products unique in taste and characteristics. The basket of the Region of Central Macedonia includes local products that are shaped by the climatic conditions of the region, the rich water resources and the great biodiversity.
The Region of Central Macedonia has one of the richest baskets of agricultural products in Greece, which includes among others, fruits, vegetables, cereals, livestock and industrial products, as well as aromatic plants.
Many of these products are recognized as PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Geographical Indication Protection).
Specifically in the Region of Central Macedonia is cultivated 55% of the country’s table olives, 25-30% of cotton, 85% of rice, 32% of cereals, 70% of fruits, 20% of vegetables, 15 % of the country’s livestock plants while is produced 35% of beef, 48% of cow’s milk, 20% of goat’s and sheep’s milk, 15% of eggs and poultry, 20% of pork, 25% of honey and 29% of the country’s catches.
